BACKGROUND-
Born in Queens NY
Moved to Freeport w her family when she was ? years old.
Levada attended the primary school through twelfth grade in the Freeport Public School System.
Levada then studied computer sciences at Hofstra University and graduated in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
COMMUNITY SERVICE-
Ms Felder first job was in Freeport teaching people how to use computers in order to be able to find related employment. It was a successful program that was able to accommodate x# of students per class with 30? dedicated computer rooms and workstations. During that time she created a computer character who helped to personalize. She named her computer teaching assistant CHIP ( Computers Help Educate People)
BREAKING NEW GROUND-
Levada established the Eager to Serve nonprofit organization in 1990 with 3 colleagues. The initial service provided by the ETS organization was in home tutoring. ETS then expanded its services to include a computer camp, a summer education program, child care and an after school program providing services for children between the ages of 18 months and mid teens. From 1995 to 2005 the program grew to include 250 students. It became known as the COUNTRY CLUB DAY CARE CENTER
The CCDC PROGRAM was initially located at the Holy Redeemer School building in Freeport and later moved to the ?? Jewish temple also in Freeport. In 2009 the CCDC CENTER was forced to move from the Jewish Center and had to discontinue operations. In 2016 CCDC was able to begin operating again moved to the Martin Luther King Park in Freeport. Unfortunately CCDC had to discontinue operations in 2019 due the COVID LOCKDOWNS.
Once again, with faith and perseverance, the CCDC restarted in the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of Freeport after COVID restrictions lifted
THE SUNSHINE HOUSE
LEVADA, alongside the EAGER to SERVE organization, began to work on providing a group home for teenage mothers and their babies. The home became known as THE SUNSHINE HOUSE and transitioned to a homeless shelter for abused adult mothers and their children by 2011. The shelter continues to operate.
